We understand today's irony: that
in order to maintain our millennia-old roots, language, land and traditions
we must be educated in the modern ways of the west; in commerce and medicine,
economy and globalization. We must be competitive in order to earn and maintain
respect. Just as our future will be our children's responsibility, today their
schools are our responsibility. In each village we strive to maintain decent
academic levels in our grade schools so that young Ye'kuana students can later
be sent for training in colleges throughout Venezuela.
